"Free CDL Training"
As you compare commercial driver license (CDL) schools, you might
notice some programs that claim to offer "free CDL training" or "CDL
training at little cost to you" or training at a substantially reduced
rate than other programs. Beware of these claims because as you well
know, nothing in life is truly free! You will get what you pay for!
Other programs or schools make these claims to give you a false
sense of security. In reality, they want to sign you up for what is
referred to as "contract training". Contract training for a commercial
driver license is simply where you, the student, signs a contract with
a carrier who has agreed to sponsor you for the cost training at the
CDL school. In return, you are contractually bound to work for that
sponsoring carrier for a certain period of time and for usually a
lower wage than could be had if you weren't contractually bound. These
work periods can last for years. So much for “free CDL.”
At Nu-Way, we don't believe in contract training for our commercial
driver license students. Our admissions department prescreens all
applicants before they are accepted into the school. This speeds up
job placement for those accepted. Our job placement department works
with over 40 trucking companies that hire our students. We have
recruiters that visit the school with the goal of hiring as many
commercial driver license graduates that we can give them. It gives
you a chance to listen to the carrier representative, ask questions
and choose with whom you want to go to work. Our students usually
average more pay than "contract trained" individuals at other CDL
schools. Many carriers also offer tuition reimbursement to help defer
costs of the program.
